I told myself that I don't see myself writing in here anymore. Well, that turned out to be a half truth. I've been documenting my life in paper journals for the past three years now, so this journal has mostly served to keep track in a truncated way.

Last night I saw Tori Amos at The Grove in Anaheim.
IT WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME! The show just rocked. It was amazing. Since it was a standing room only show, I got the chance to be SO close to her! It was unbelievable. I was about 20 feet away from her. I have never been so close to a performer ever at a show, and the first time I am, it's for my favorite musician. After all these years of listening to her, and finally seeing her upclose. The teenager inside of me sobs for joy. The "adult" in me just is grateful for being in her presence while she performed. Truly an unforgettable experience. And no, I didn't even pay for the overpriced VIp tickets either! Bought my ticket at regular price, regular GA admission for fifty two bones. It was an opportunity of a lifetime, I knew I'd get the chance to up close to the stage if I went to this show. Bascially, anyone who says Tori has lost her magic is an absolute fool. Her performance was very high energy, and full of the Tori magic all around. She dressed as two of her "Posse" characters: Pip (angsty, dark, curses like a sailor) and Santa (blonde, margarita lovin' classy, but fun). And of course, she also dressed as herself.

I'm Not There was the most fun I've had watching a movie in a while. You don't have to be "DYLAN OBSESSED" to see it (as some people have said), but you do have to at least know some of the background as well as music from one of the most legendary singers of all time. The film did the best a film can do to capture the true spirit of Bob Dylan. As everyone has been saying, Cate Blanchett was absolutely amazing. I was so blown away by her performance. Everytime she came on screen, I was in awe. She really had the look, the voice, the charisma, the mannerisms of Dylan down like no one else I could imagine. Heath Ledger also was great with his character. I think he can always pull off the distant male character pretty well. I liked how I could pick out here & there things only people who are into Dylan would know. It was great. Matt enjoyed it too, and picked up on more things than I thought he would. The film will be just as misinterpreted & misunderstood as Dylan was, and I think that's the point. It's not supposed to be a biopic like Walk the Line, it just...it just is. Expectations of some kind of narrative such as No Direction Home should be stripped. It doesn't aim to tell you about a singer's life but give you different representations of certain eras of someone who was an ever changing pop culture icon. I had been waiting for this movie to come out for months. Nothing can ever truly live up to your utmost expectations when you've been anticipating it for so long, but it was definetly satisfying. A must-see for all my Dylanphiles, and everyone else should as well - it can be a mind trip at some points (so bring yo' joints!) |

| | Zero Sum by Nine Inch Nails | ] | Well kiddies, I'm moving out of my apartment this weekend. The rent went up in Garbage Garden Grove and it just wasn't worth it to stay, especially with a bad bug problem and a kind of a ghetto location. So after a year of living here I will now admit it was right on the border of Stanton. So ghetto, for reals. So after a month long search, I found a place in Fullerton that is a lil more than what I was paying, but not as much as I would be paying if I were to stay. And it's in a better area. And it's a better place. And my new roommate is a little bit older. We're talking like, um, eight year age difference between him and I. It's all good, he's one of those young at heart kind of people. So yeaaah, I will be moved in totally within a few days...hopefully. So is it a coincidence that I am going to be about a mile away from downtown Fullerton when my 21st birthday is in almost 5 months? For non-locals, downtown Fullerton has been called the Bourbon Street of the West Coast. Hmm, maybe a coincidence. I am also going to be less than 5 miles away from my lover. Which actually is a coincidence. But I am also going to be closer to my job and to CSUF - which I plan on attending in Spring '08. Not a coincidence. I'm in F-town now, dude. Never thought it would happen. Amber in Fool-er-ton. Crazy.
p.s. Of course I've heard the leak of the new NIN album Year Zero and it fucking rocks! And I've heard samples of Tori's American Doll Posse and that's going to fucking rock too!! TeamToriTrent FTW. kthx. |
